2019 Award Winners

New Product Awards

42 companies showcased more than 50 new products at SLAS2019, and out of that group, three were chosen as this year's New Product Award winners. The New Product Award is given to companies showcasing a new product that is commercially available within 90 days pre-and/or post-conference. Winning products are granted use of the New Product Award designation for a year and are promoted through SLAS promotional channels. Congratulations to this year’s winners and their products:

SLAS Ignite Award

The SLAS Ignite Award is awarded to the best start-up or emerging company from those exhibiting within Innovation AveNEW. Companies were judged based on their marketing plan, market presence and potential, funding prospects, plan for growth and the existence of a balanced company leadership, among other qualities. Congratulations to this year's winner, SEED Biosciences (Switzerland), recognized for their revolutionary pipette that allows scientists to view single cells at a single cell resolution. For their win, SEED Biosciences took home a $5,000 cash prize.

Student Poster Awards

This year's winners were chosen out of more than 325 poster abstract submissions and were judged on various content and design themes. The SLAS Academic Poster Award recognizes the innovative research by students, graduate students, post-doctoral associates and junior faculty (less than four years in first academic appointment) who are chosen to present a poster during the SLAS International Conference and Exhibition. Congratulations to the SLAS2019 Poster Award Winners:

The Exhibition

This year's Exhibition featured more than 300 exhibitors from technology and life sciences companies from around the globe. From Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon, attendees browsed the show floor at their leisure, networked with fellow colleagues at the SLAS Booth and at one of the various receptions, attended Solutions Spotlight sessions, played Passport to Prizes and SLAS Quest and witnessed the next-generation of lab and automation solutions throughout the hall and within Innovation AveNEW.

SLAS Ignite Academic Collaboration Presentations

SLAS Ignite Academic Collaboration Presentations unite academic researchers and their institutions with an audience of potential collaborators from industry and beyond. This showcase was designed to allow for the presenters to feature their research capabilities with the goal of fostering future partnerships. Topics this year included cell separation using magnetic ratcheting cytometry, rapid point-of-care diagnostic platforms, configurable micro-physiological systems and more.

Poster Gallery

More than 350 scientific posters were presented this year, and many poster authors took advantage of the opportunity to discuss their research with fellow attendees during the dedicated poster session times.

SLAS FUNd Run

A group of early birds got the worm Tuesday morning during the annual SLAS FUNd Run benefitting the SLAS Educational Fund. Around 100 people took in the sites of the National Mall with a pre-conference jog around some of DC’s most famous and historic monuments.

Tuesday Night Networking Party Sponsored by Hamilton –Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

The Tuesday Night Networking Party is always a hit and this year was no exception. Attendees enjoyed food, refreshments and open-access to almost all of the museum’s famed installations. Over 1,000 attendees were present at the SLAS Closing Keynote presentation featuring Dr. Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science and his thorough presentation on gut bacteria and diet, “Personalized Medicine Approaches Based on the Gut Microbiome.” After the presentation, Cristian Soitu, M.Eng., (University of Oxford) was named the 2019 SLAS Innovation Award Winner for his research, “Microfluidic Chambers Using Fluid Walls for Cell Biology.”
